Tips on Keeping a Pool Clean

Most of us would love to just hire a professional to keep our pool clean, but for most of us that is way too expensive. So this leaves us with no other option then to keep it clean on our own. While this is not the easiest job it is not the most difficult in the world. So I will list a few tips to help the average person to keep their pool nice and clean for the life of your pool.

clean swimming poolThe first thing on the list is a pool leaf rake. This is not the type of rake you will use on leaves but the kind that has a net on the end. Most the time it is on a long pole so that you are able to reach all around without being in the water. This tool comes in handy because it has a net on the end to catch all the fun things that float around on top or bottom of the pool. The fastest way to use this is start by walking around the pool gathering all the leaves and debris as you walk. You will have to clean the net once in a while when it gets full. This will eliminate the stuff going back into water. Continue this until the surface of the water is clean.

The next step you want to do is vacuum the bottom of the pool. Start by connecting the hose to the vacuum then place the unit in the water. You will want to adjust the hose so that it will fill with water. This will be a good practice so that air does not get in the vacuum the first few moments of cleaning and also give your vacuum a longer life. Be sure to let the vacuum do its job until the bottom is shiny clean and to your satisfaction. Next you will want to brush the side walls to get any dirt on them. You might think it would be easier to do this first that is not the case. If you do this first it takes about 30 minutes or so for the dirt to fall to the bottom of the pool so it can be time consuming. If you prefer it this way that is fine if you have enough time.

When brushing the walls you want to start with the brush at the side of the pool with the head facing down. Start with a downward brushing motion and be sure to keep the brush straight until it reaches the bottom. After this brush upwards to keep the dirt in the width of the head then pull it all the way up out of the water. This should keep most of the dirt off the wall and in your brush then pull it straight out of pool. This process is a lot less painful than you think and now you have a clean pool. The best thing to do is try to keep from getting major build up by repeating these steps as often as you can. The less build up you have the easier the job will be.
